Wendy Nestrud, BM and Dalcroze Certificate
Wendy Nestrud took a circuitous route into her musical career. Like many young people, she stopped her formal piano lessons before high school. Unlike many others, she continued playing piano on her own. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Illinois at Chicago. In between studying and clinicals, she found stray pianos on campus to play for fun and relaxation. While working as a nurse in neonatal intensive care unit in San Diego, she restarted her piano studies. Piano lessons continued when she moved to Denver where she eventually attended Metropolitan State University of Denver, studied piano performance with Dr. Susan Cable, and earned a Bachelor of Music. She spent some time in graduate studies at University of Colorado Boulder studying with Dr. Andrew Cooperstock where her path crossed with Jeremy Dittus. She studied Dalcroze at the Dalcroze School of the Rockies and is a certified Dalcroze teacher who teaches piano privately in her her studio. Dalcroze teachers include Dr. Jeremy Dittus, Diplôme Supérieur, Mary Dobrea- Grindahl(Diplôme Supérieur, Eiko Ishizuka Candidate for Diplôme Supérieur, Monica Dale Dalcroze License, and Laetitia-Disseix Berger Diplôme Supérieur. Wendy feels deeply about the power of Dalcroze because she has experienced it herself as an adult. Dalcroze studies have afforded her a much deeper understanding and expression of music than previous studies.
